Fighting fraudulent claims involving identifiable goods

The service provides insurance firms and companies that are involved in the claims handling process with a powerful validation tool that can help expedite legitimate claims, and importantly highlight and dissuade potentially fraudulent claims. This has the potential to reduce the costs of claims and the claims process itself.

This is achieved by providing the insurer the ability to check certain pieces of information provided by the claimant - these include:

• Make and model of the item being claimed on - especially powerful with mobile phones
• Has the item been recorded as stolen by the police on the national stolen and lost police database
• Has the item had an insurance claim made on it with another insurer
• Is the crime reference being quoted correct and in the right format for the force that provided it
• Has the item (if a mobile phone) been blocked by the networks
• Has the item been offered for trade in within the previous 14 days

In addition the service allows the insurer to take certain actions on behalf of the customer saving them time and money - these include:

• Report stolen and lost property directly to the UK Police systems on behalf of the claimant rather than having to rely on the customer's word that it has been reported.
• Flag the item as lost or stolen on CheckMEND - the second-hand trade and publicly checkable due diligence system
• Has the item had an insurance claim made on it with another insurer
• Is the crime reference being quoted correct and in the right format for the force that provided it
• Has the item (if a mobile phone) been blocked by the networks
• Has the item been offered for trade in within the previous 14 days

And finally post claim reports on a daily or weekly basis that show:

• If a mobile phone has been unblocked after you have settled the claim
• If the mobile phone has been traded into the second hand market after a claim
• If another insurer checks the same item within a short period after you settle a claim
